Protect Our Winters Part 3 (10"x15" edition of 10)
Protect Our Winters Part 3 (10"x15" edition of 10)
It feels like a month between today and last thursday doesn’t it? A week ago we were still grappling with wrapping our heads around what it was that was we were up against and what was going to happen. Now, ski resorts around the world are closed (for the best) and empty chairs hang without riders. As people hunker down and prepare for the worst I’ve started seeing posts about the environmental impact of humans becoming extremely clear—streams and rivers have cleared, emissions maps show a drastic cut in harmful atmospheric expulsions, and animals wander freely through our urban maze. Some people see these images and say things like “see, the earth is trying to get rid of humans, WE are the disease.” And I get the attraction in that perspective, but instead, I think we should be thinking about how changing industries—many of which are now clamoring for bailouts—how this is a moment to force a change towards a more harmonious balance between humans activity and the earth’s health. We should never celebrate the deaths of others, even if we disagree with them, or see them as harming an earth we love. But we can take this moment of upheaval to think about the world we want to live in tomorrow.
As before, stay safe, wash your hands, and love each other.
